UKRAINIAN FOLK EMBROIDERY IN THE CONTEXT OF TRAINING FUTURE DECORATIVE PAINTING ARTISTS

Abstract

The article justifies the didactic potential of Ukrainian folk embroidery in training future decorative painting artists (specialization in textiles) within the framework of practice-oriented courses. It determines the essential characteristics of the degree in fine arts, decorative arts. Emphasis is placed on mastering the techniques of Ukrainian folk embroidery through the subject-specific course «Working with Materials». The course focuses on Ukrainian folk embroidery as an essential spiritual and material heritage and an artistic value that performs aesthetic, cognitive and communicative functions. Importantly, the course teaches future specialists to work on art projects, clothing collections and create their own works of art (products). It highlights the value of ornamental forms of Ukrainian embroidery through practical activities aimed at studying regional features of Ukrainian folk embroidery. To this end, the article contains examples of products created during such activities and specifies their characteristics. It must be noted that the course «Working with Materials» involves studying traditional seams (both common in Ukraine and other countries) and, therefore, creating floral compositions. Besides, the article contains the results of students’ practical work in this area. Finally, one can conclude that it is crucial for future decorative painting artists to know about Ukrainian folk embroidery and master its main techniques. It will consolidate their theoretical knowledge of the area, develop their universal values, national identity and motivate them to respect the cultural and artistic heritage of the Ukrainian people and their region in particular.
